The Italy NBO Training Site was inaugurated at the Brazelton Centre, AOU Mayer, Firenze, on March 22-23rd 2021. Gherardo Rapisardi, Neonatologo e Pediatre, Maria Luce Cioni, Neonatologa and Viola Fortini, Fisioterapista presented a “live” ZOOM virtual NBO training program to a new cadre of trainees. For over 25 years, the Brazelton Centre in Florence has flourished under the direction of Dr. Gherardo Rapisardi. Dr. Rapisardi first studied neurodevelopmental evaluation with Adriano Milani Comparetti in Italy and came to the Child Development Unit in Boston to work with T. Berry Brazelton and he also worked with Barry Lester at Brown University in the 1980s. He became certified in the NBAS and in 1995 became NBAS Trainer for Italy. Returning to Florence, Gherardo established the Brazelton Centre and was joined by Adrienne Davidson in offering NBAS training. The Centre has continued to provide interdisciplinary training “in a family-centered neurodevelopmental approach, to primary care and health care specialists, based on the Brazelton approach for over quarter of a century”. The NBO team of Gherardo Rapisardi, Maria Luce Cioni and Viola Fortini will continue to present NBO virtual training until in-person training is again possible.
